Downsizing

  • Jun. 7th, 2008 at 12:27 PM
My friend is dispersing her stuff. She has moved from a home to an apartment. Today I met her at her daughter's garage. It was loaded with stuff! I just couldn't wrap my head around it all. I decided to limit myself to a few items I know would receive use. At first I wasn't going to pick up any books, but she had a good collection to draw from. I decided at the price - FREE - I couldn't really walk by them without looking...

books & videos

My friend also had a ton of fabric...and I mean literally. Every surface and floor space was crammed with bags and baskets of fabric. The odd thing was, very little of it was in my colour range. I really need mid-range warm colours. However, I did find some to take. Gotta love friends...(big satisfied sigh)

fabric

  • The white cotton gauze is destined for the dye pot.
  • The slate blue fabric peeking through beneath the white guaze is a lightweight brocade.  It will make a nice tablecloth...or skirt...
  • The taffeta plaid was a fun pair of pants she threw in at the last minute.  I laughed and took them.  There has to be something to do with fun fabric like that.  Maybe I'll sew some new Christmas stockings with a plaid cuff.
  • The fabric that appears taupe, but is really a greeny brown, will probably end up as separates for me.  It's a nice lightweight woven - 4m of 60" wide.
  • Then there's some brown/rust checked suiting.  It smells like wool. 2.5 m. of 60" wide...a casual jacket for me?
  • Then there's 4 m of 60" wide denim.  I guess I'll finally be able to sew myself some blue jeans!  I've had the pattern for years...just never bought the fabric.
  • And beneath that is a light denim...more like chambray...duvet cover that looks like it has plaster on it.  I'm going to wash it and see what happens.  If it comes clean, I'll be making a chambray shirt and skirt.
And last, but not least, I picked up more yarn for the church knitting group...if they want it. I think there's enough there I could knit a few projects too!  One of the balls is a ball of buffalo wool yarn I picked up at a garage sale.  It snuck into the photo...hehehe.  It'll make a great hat!
